Special Transportation Service Driver Training
Minnesota D.O.T. required Special Transportation Service training classes are scheduled throughout the year.
Minnesota is currently one of only three states in the country that requires state-certified training for drivers of special needs and vulnerable passengers and patients. The required classes are Defensive Driving, Passenger Assistance Training (Ambulatory and Wheelchair), Abuse Prevention/Maltreatment Awareness and Basic First Aid, and are scheduled regularly. Emergicare's trainer is certified by the Minnesota Department of Transportation to instruct all four areas of training. We also can teach the required eight hour refresher course and seven hours of Continuing Driver Education that MN DOT requires for driver recertification every three years.
News and Notes:
Private Training Classes at your location are still available. We have literally traveled all across Minnesota, from Northome to Grand Meadow, Morton to Duluth, to present STS driver training. E-mail us for further information.
Refresher Training: Per current MN DOT requirements, a driver is required to take 8 hours of classroom training (First Aid, Defensive Driving and Passenger Assistance/Abuse Prevention-Maltreatment Awareness) and have 7 hours of documented Continuing Driver Education (CE), or take 15 hours of classroom instruction, every 3 years. (See Tuition page for costs)
Please direct any questions about training, certification and space availability to Emergicare's office, via e-mail or phone call. Host locations are not able to reserve class seats, confirm registration or answer questions about classes.
Now Available: Pay on line by Credit/Debit Card. (See below.)

August, 2014 Special Class
M-NET (Minnesota Non-Emergency Transportation) has added an amendment to their transportation provider contract that will require all STS (Special Transportation Service) drivers to recertify in Defensive Driving every two years, as opposed to the three-year renewal period required by MN DOT for all STS driver skills. My understanding is that this policy takes effect on September 1, 2014. For that reason, Emergicare Medical Training will be holding a special Defensive Driving update class on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at 6:00 PM at Driving Miss Daisy Transportation/Daisy Home Care, 1710 Douglas Drive N., Golden Valley, MN, 55422. Since this will be a refresher class for everyone attending, the cost will be only $25.00 per driver, paid at class. (No online registration available.) Certificates (cards) will be issued at the end of the class session.
Space is limited for this class to the first 18 drivers, first-come, first-served. Please e-mail me or call if you would like to take part in this class session.
Class size: 18. Seats still available as of Aug. 27th: 5
