Special Transportation Service Driver Training

Minnesota D.O.T. required Special Transportation Service training classes are scheduled throughout the year.

Minnesota is currently the only state in the country that requires state-certified training for drivers of special needs and vulnerable passengers and patients. The required classes are Defensive Driving, Passenger Assistance Training (Ambulatory and Wheelchair), Abuse Prevention and Basic First Aid, and are scheduled regularly. Emergicare's trainer is certified by the Minnesota Department of Transportation to instruct all four areas of training. We also can teach the required eight hour refresher course and seven hours of Continuing Driver Education that MN DOT requires for driver recertification every three years.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to a change in my duties and schedule at my regular employment, and the high cost of travel, we are cutting back our STS driver training classes to one course of four weekday evenings per month, limited to 15 drivers, at R&D Transportation in Fridley, and one course two Saturdays each month at Transit Team in Minneapolis. (Per their requirements.) At this time, we are not teaching Defensive Driving at Transit Team, but this may change in the near future. For now, we will continue to offer at second evening Defensive Driving session each month at R&D if needed. Availability for classes other than at these times and locations will be very limited, particularly during the summer.

Scheduled Open Classes and Locations:

(Updated as needed)

New Driver Training (May also be taken for Refresher)

Classes will no longer be over-booked. 15 seats per class, maximum!

NOTICE!: DO NOT call R&D or Transit Team with training/schedule or tuition questions. They cannot and will not register drivers for classes!

Training is conducted by the Emergicare Medical Training instructors at those locations. You must contact us by phone or e-mail with any questions or to register for classes.
